Destino

With this collection of towels designed by Mirena Ossorno we make our debut as Labrador, a sister imprint to Terranova that will produce anything that going beyond vynil and paper. In fact, it was during the presentation of Gong!#1 at tennis club Pompeya in Montjuïc when we started talking about this project and many others that could be made with the suggestive patterns that Mirena created for the magazine. Using as a starting point rejected and alternative versions of the patterns included on Gong#1 we started to imagine these towelling rectangles to lie on the beach or swimming pool, dry yourself when coming out of the shower and use as a skirt afterwards. When it comes to the colours chosen, we thought about tones that granted them a timeless air and made them suitable for many different targets; that made them totally different, but able to coexist well together. At the same time, we did some research about the different qualities and manufacturing processes and realised that, as it’s often said, Portugal is the best place to produce jacquard towelling fabric (with which one side ends up being the negative of the other) as it’s traditionally been done, with long-lasting quality and avoiding labour exploitation. The final results are these two towels very different in appearance but coming from a similar source of inspiration for Mirena. Named Kélibia (the blue and white one) and Kala (the black and brown one), they pay tribute to villages and beached on the most exotic Mediterranean, the African coast that is so close to us and, at the same time, so forgotten. Each towel is accompanied by a short publication with photographs of the towels taken by our favourite Barcelona female photographers: Alba Yruela, Mar Ordóñez, Claire O’Keefe, Patricia Ruiz del Portal, Berta Pfirsich, Leila Méndez, Rita Puig-Serra and Carla Pérez Vas. Besides, the first 80 towels sold come in a summery and re-usable packaging: a transparent plastic beach bag with our logo, designed by Blanca Miró Skoudy, as a small detail.
